Pakistan: Lahore copes with grief, 40 detained
By Dawn Staff Reporter
LAHORE, (Dawn): R.A. Bazaar, Nishat Colony and other areas of Lahore remained in a state of grief and fear on Saturday, a day after two suicide attacks killed 57 people and injured 120 others in cantonment area and six low-intensity blasts rocked Allama Iqbal Town and Samanabad.
Like most other markets in the city, the Cantonment Board Market (R.A. Bazaar) was closed. A bus terminal adjacent to R.A. Bazaar also presented a deserted look.
Attendance in offices remained thin.
Law-enforcement agencies have launched separate investigations into the incident as no joint team has been constituted for the purpose.
Police crackdown against Afghan refugees continued across the city and several of them were detained for not having identity documents.
The Civil Lines division police arrested 40 people late on Friday night and registered cases against them.
Cantonment SP Investigation Umer Saeed said the bombers apparently came from the same place, adding resemblance between them and their fair complexion suggested they belonged to South Waziristan. He said fingerprints of bombers would be obtained to verify them with NADRA record.
Sources told Dawn that intelligence agencies had intercepted telephonic conversations about movement of terrorists and their nefarious designs on Saturday.
