The obligation to perform Hajj is clearly mentioned in the Quran. Some of the references to Hajj and its importance are listed below:

“And pilgrimage to the House is a duty of mankind towards Allah, for him who is able to make his way to it. As for him who disbelieves, (let him know that) surely Allah is independent of the worlds.” (Al-Imran, 3:97)

“And proclaim among mankind the Hajj”. (Al-Hajj, 22:27)

The verses above clearly spell out the duty pending on every Muslim who has the resources at his disposal, and the consequences of ignoring one’s duty. One must be sincere in his intentions when performing Hajj, so that upon completing his Hajj, he may return home purified and purged from all previous sins. Once he is under the noble shadow of Kabah, his worship pleases Allah abundantly, and Paradise is secured for him who fulfills all the conditions of Hajj.
