Muslim World's answer to Facebook and Wikipedia - Islamic Social Network Launches for the Muslim World!
Muslims can now connect with Muslims around the world, without compromising their Islamic values, through a new social network, Canadian media company Madina Media Corp. announced today.
(PRWEB) May 20, 2010 -- Madina.com has been envisioned as a virtual city catering to Islamic values, in particular, offering services to Muslim youth, that are commensurate with advanced features on other sites like facebook and Twitter. Users of Madina.com can have discussions on various topics, upload videos, audio files, form groups, post blogs, articles, and even have a points based system which upgrades their rank, based on the level of activity in their accounts. The ilmpedia project envisions to serve as a one-stop source of accurate, authentic information about Islam, written by Muslims themselves, verified by Islamic Scholars. Anyone with an internet connection will be able to easily access this Islamic encyclopaedia and also contribute towards it. The site will keep evolving and is actively seeking volunteer content writers (willing contributors can intimate their interest in the project by sending an email to wiki@madina.com ).
The necessity for having an Internet presence compatible with Islamic culture and values, has increased significantly over the last few years but even more so over the last few weeks, with cartoons of the Holy Prophet (pbuh), and in particular, Muslims' call for boycott of facebook for a page calling May 20th as 'Everybody draw the Prophet Day'. This has even led to a ban of facebook in Pakistan.
ilmpedia and Madina.com, it is hoped, will help Muslims overcome this existential conundrum while maintaining a significant Internet presence with high quality standards.
