Hazrat Baba Fareed ud din Masood Ganjshakar (R.A)

    Pakpattan, Pakistan-

Hazrat Baba Fareed was born around 1170 . He was the descended of Farrukh Shah, King of Afghanistan and Ghazni. Baba Fareed 's great grandfather was the son of Farrukh Shah. He was killed alongwith most of his family members when the Mongol hordes invaded Kabul. Baba Fareed’s grandfather Shaykh Shoaib left Afghanistan and settled in Punjab in 1125.

Shaykh Shoaib then went to Multan where he established in Kothiwal a private college for religious instruction and attracted much attention. His eldest son Jamal-uddin married Bibi Miriam, daughter of Syed Muhammad Abdula Shah - a descendant of Imam Ali. Bibi Miriam had three sons, Khwaja Aziz-ul-din, Fareed-ul- Din Masaud (Baba Fareed) and Khwaja Najib-ul-din, and one daughter Khatun Jamila.

When Baba Fareed was a few years old his mother taught him his prayers. The boy asked her what was gained by prayer. His mother replied sugar. Accordingly, she used to hide some sugar under his prayer rug and when he would finished his prayers he would find the sugar-candy hidden inside the rug. One day his mother forgot to put the sugar-candy but she was surprised to see that there was sugar-candy under the rug. From that day on, Bibi Miriam started calling her son Shakar Ganj, or the treasury of sugar in Farsi.

He went to Delhi and was initiated into the Sufi order by Shaykh Bakhtiar Kaki. When Khwaja Qutub-ul- Bakhtiar Kaki died at Delhi Baba Fareed assumed the mantle of his late spiritual guide. He ultimately left it in the keeping of Jamal-ul-Din of Hansi and thence proceeded to Ajodhan, the present day Pak Pattan.

Shaykh Fareed made Pak Pattan a great center of Sufi thoughts. People from all over India and Middle East would come to see him He generally rejected offerings of money, but would accept gifts of food, etc for public kitchen. Baba Fareed went to Delhi again and was received with a most hospitable reception. Emperor Nasir-ul-Din Balban introduced him to his family. Baba Fareed looked to Emperor’s daughter Hazabara and asked Emperor to marry her to him. Thus Hazabra was married to Baba Sheikh Fareed, but only after Emperor Balban promised not to give any costly gifts, Baba Fareed distributed all her dowry to the needy.

Baba Fareed ji died of Pneumonia on the fifth day of the month of Muharram in 1266. He was buried outside the town of Pak Pattan at a place called martyrs grave.

Deart what i saw now is people pray or say nawafil prayers for them. well i read in Quran that if some one die his chapter is closed mean nothing can change what they get or what happen to them after death. (If you agree or read such things in Quran). Second what i mean to say how their efforts go in vain is all these superb personalities teaches people to understand Islam. and practice what prophet tell them say prayer, read and understand Quran, spend their life according to islam(agree with this point). Now how that go in van is now all those people who do respect of these people now read Quran for them ( that is called Quran khwani) and say nawafil prayers for forgiveness of these personalities from ALLAH. why they are good people, they do good with their lifes... why people say namaz for them.. why not for their self .. why not yo please ALLAH ...

Imam Muslim RadiAllahu anhu (d. 261H) narrates from Ayesha (RadiAllahu anhu said one man came and said “Ya Rasool Allah! (Oh Prophet of Allah!) (Sallallaho Alihi Wassallam) my mother has suddenly passed away and she has made no will. I suppose if she would have got a chance to talk she would have given charity (sadqa) so if I give charity on her behalf would its reward get to her sprit (Ruh) The Prophet (Sallallaho Alihi Wassallam) replied, Yes it will reach her!

Imam Nawawi (d. 676) in his explanation of Muslim (Sharh Muslim) says this means this narration (hadith) proves that if charity is given for the dead body its reward gets to the dead. Scholars have consensus on this.

and finally to contradict ur view that "nothing can change what they get or what happen to them after death".

Sayyidina Ibn Abbas (RadiAllahu anhu) reported that one of the companions of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) pitched a tent on a grave. He did not know that there was grave. It was the grave of human beings, who recited surah al-Mulk (#67) to the end of it. He came to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and said, “O Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), I pitched my tent over a grave without knowing that it was a grave. The man inside recited surah al-Mulk to its end.” The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said, “It is the rescuer. It rescues from punisment of the grave.”

                  toh my reply is

It has been reported by Sayyiduna 'Hadrat Ali karram-Allahu wajha-hu al-karim that the Final Messenger (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) said:

                  “ماً مَرَّ أَلَ ال-مَقَبِرِ وَقَرَ’َ ‘قُل هُوَ ’للَهُ أَهَدُن’ إِهدَ اشَرَتَ مَرَّتاً، ثُمَّ وَهَبَ أَجرَ-هُ لِ’ل-َموَتِ، أُؤتِيَ مِن ال-َجرِ بِأَدَدِ ’ل-َموَتِ”

(Whosoever passes by some graves and recites the “Qul Huwa ’Llahu Ahad” (Surat al-Ikhlas) eleven times, and that he confers the reward thereof to the deceased ones, then ,he [himself] shall be given reward equal to the reward of the number of the deceased persons [in total.].”
