    Dear Mr/ /Mrs. (teacher’s name)
    Re: your child’s name

    Greetings

Please be advised that (your child’s name) will need to abstain from foods and drinks during the school time beginning (the date of the first day of Ramadan). This is an Islamic worship that is practiced by almost 1.5 billion Muslims around the world.

Muslims fast every day from dawn till sunset during / /20 to / / which is called Ramadan. Included in this letter are some facts about fasting.

I appreciate your kind assistance and cooperation.

Note: If your child is fairly young that he/she is not obliged to fast, mention in your letter that he/she is fasting either partially or for training purposes. Also indicate that your child is free to eat or drink if he/she is noticeably weakened by the fast.

Sample letter for Eid Ul Fitr

    Date--/--/----
    Dear Mr/ /Mrs (teacher’s name)

    Re: your child’s name
    Greetings

By the end of the day of (date of last day of Ramadan), (your child’s name) would be achieving a remarkable accomplishment by completing a whole month of fasting. (Date on which the Eid is expected) will be the day of celebration for the Muslim community worldwide.

(Your child’s name) would like to share information with his/her class on the fasting, the celebration and the various cultural practices of various racial and ethnic groups within the Muslim community. He/she would also like to bring to his/her class some small gifts of candy and sweets that are store bought (use only store bought and sealed items). He/ she may answer questions of his/her classmates as well. I (either parent), too could come and provide more information to the class.

Please advise us of your preferred time and proper arrangements, in the hope that it will be a very good educational experience for both students and teachers. I am confident that it will further their appreciation of multicultural diversity. Also advise us on the number of gift packages which (your child’s name) needs to bring to class.

Thank you for your kind cooperation.
    Sincerely,

[*] You may want to include your mosque or the Imam as a reference for more information.
The Five Pillars of Islam (arkān-al-Islām أركان الإسلام; also arkān ad-dīn أركان الدين "pillars of the religion") are five basic acts in Islam.

The Qur'an presents them as a framework for worship and a sign of commitment to the faith. They are (1) the shahada (creed), (2) daily prayers (salat), (3) fasting during Ramadan (sawm), (4) almsgiving (zakāt), and (5) the pilgrimage to Mecca (hajj) at least once in a lifetime.
